People seek assessments for many different reasons. These may include lifelong differences in social communication, a strong need for routine, sensory sensitivities, intense interests, difficulties managing change, masking or feeling persistently misunderstood.

The assessment explores your development, communication, relationships, sensory experiences, routines, interests and day-to-day functioning. We use recognised clinical criteria and assessment tools, which may include DSM-5 criteria, the ADOS-2 and the ADI-R.

An autism assessment may involve more than one stage or appointment. The exact process and expected appointment length will be explained before you book.

Assessments are available online and in person. We will explain which format is clinically appropriate and whether any part of the assessment needs to be completed in a particular way.

Yes. You will be asked to complete a registration pack and may also receive questionnaires or requests for additional background information. Returning these promptly helps the clinician prepare for your assessment.

Developmental information from a parent, family member or someone who knew you during childhood can be helpful. However, we understand that this is not available to everyone. Please discuss this with us so the clinician can consider other appropriate sources of information.

No. School reports or other childhood records can provide helpful supporting information but not having them does not automatically prevent you from being assessed.

Not necessarily. The clinician must review all the available information before confirming an outcome. You will receive feedback once the assessment process has been completed.

Yes. You will receive a comprehensive report explaining the assessment findings, diagnostic outcome and practical recommendations.

Report times can vary depending on the complexity of the assessment and whether further information is needed. You will be given an expected timeframe during the assessment process.

The clinician will explain the reasons for the outcome and may discuss other possible explanations for your experiences. Recommendations for alternative assessments or support may be provided where appropriate.

Yes. ADHD and autism can overlap, and we offer a combined assessment pathway for adults who would benefit from exploring both. We can help you decide whether a combined or individual assessment is more suitable.

There is no medication that treats autism itself. However, some people may benefit from treatment or support for co-occurring difficulties such as ADHD, anxiety, low mood or sleep problems.

Your report will include recommendations relevant to your circumstances. Depending on your needs, this may include practical strategies, reasonable adjustments, coaching, therapy or support for associated mental health or neurodevelopmental needs.

No. Equilibrium Project provides private assessments and is not part of the NHS. With your consent, we can share your report with your GP or another relevant healthcare professional.

Yes. Your information is handled in accordance with UK data protection law and our confidentiality policies. It will only be shared with your consent unless there is a serious safety concern, safeguarding requirement or legal obligation.
