FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS

MENTAL HEALTH ASSESSMENT AND SUPPORT

Who is the mental health service for?

Our private mental health service supports adults experiencing difficulties such as anxiety, low mood, emotional overwhelm, stress, burnout, trauma-related difficulties or changes affecting their general wellbeing.

Do I need a diagnosis to contact you?

No. You do not need an existing diagnosis or referral. You can contact us if you are struggling, would like greater clarity about what you are experiencing or want to explore suitable support.

What happens during a mental health assessment?

The clinician will discuss your current difficulties, relevant history, physical and mental health, medication, relationships, lifestyle and the impact on your daily life. You will have an opportunity to explain what has been happening and what you would like help with.

How long does the initial assessment take?

A full mental health assessment usually lasts approximately one hour. Additional time or further appointments may be recommended if your needs are more complex.

Will I receive a diagnosis during the assessment?

Not every assessment results in a formal diagnosis. The clinician will discuss their findings with you and explain whether a diagnosis, further assessment or a different form of support may be appropriate.

What support do you provide?

Depending on your needs, we may recommend clinical follow-up appointments, one-to-one therapeutic support, emotional wellbeing work, coaching, practical strategies or referral to another appropriate service.

Can you prescribe mental health medication?

Medication can be discussed where it forms part of an appropriate clinical pathway. Prescribing is never automatic and will depend on a clinical assessment, your health, current medication and the professional judgement of the prescriber.

How many appointments will I need?

This varies from person to person. Some people benefit from a single assessment and recommendations, while others choose ongoing sessions. Any proposed treatment plan will be discussed with you.

Can appointments take place online?

Online appointments are available across the UK, and in-person appointments are available on the Isle of Wight. We will advise you if an in-person appointment is clinically necessary

Do you offer support for couples or families?

Support may be available where mental health difficulties are affecting relationships or family life. Please contact us so that we can understand what type of support you are seeking.

Do you provide workplace or professional wellbeing support?

Yes. We may be able to support people experiencing workplace stress, burnout, reduced confidence or leadership pressures through confidential, personalised sessions.

Can you assess whether my difficulties may be related to ADHD or autism?

Yes. Mental health difficulties can sometimes overlap with neurodevelopmental conditions. Where appropriate, the clinician may recommend exploring an ADHD or autism assessment through our specialist services.

Will you contact my GP?

We can share assessment findings or treatment information with your GP or another healthcare professional if you provide consent. Information may be shared without consent only where there is a serious safety concern, safeguarding requirement or legal obligation.

Is the service confidential?

Yes. Your information is handled in accordance with UK data protection law and our confidentiality policies. Your clinician will explain the limits of confidentiality where necessary.

Is this an emergency or crisis service?

No. Equilibrium Project is not an emergency or crisis-response service. If you or someone else is in immediate danger, call 999 or go to A&E. If you need urgent mental health support but there is no immediate danger, contact NHS 111 and select the mental health option.

How do I get started?

Contact us to request the Mental Health Assessment and Support Information Pack. Once we receive the required registration information, we can explain the next steps, current fees and appointment availability.
